TOKYO, March 4, 2026 - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), a U.S.-based global defense technology company, to collaborate on geostationary defense communications satellites.

Under the agreement, the two companies will pursue delivery of advanced geostationary defense communications satellites to customers in Japan and overseas. Satellite communication has become indispensable for national security due to its extensive coverage and flexibility. In particular, global demand is growing for next-generation systems offering enhanced performance and superior resistance to interference.

As a mission partner, Lockheed Martin will develop and manufacture a communications payload for a next-generation defense communications satellite that Mitsubishi Electric was contracted to supply to the Japan Ministry of Defense on February 6. Incorporating Lockheed Martin’s anti-jamming payload will strengthen resistance to interference and help establish a secure satellite communications network serving as the operational backbone for the Japan Ministry of Defense and Self-Defense Forces.

Lockheed Martin, with cutting-edge technologies and extensive experience in the defense and space sectors, provides solutions that enhance space-based defense capabilities for the United States and other nations.

Mitsubishi Electric has cultivated advanced satellite capabilities through projects both in Japan and overseas.
